Maskarado: The Complete Comic Strips

27 03 2014

Here’s a special treat for everyone! Ive collected all of the original Maskarado comic strips that ran in the Tempo newspaper tabloid from Feb. 20 to Apr. 30, 1992. You can download the file through the link below, in PDF format:

Maskarado – The Complete Comic Strips (2014)

Or, if you prefer a .cbz file, you can download it at this link (for a limited time):

Maskarado – The Complete Comic Strips (2014).cbz

One note: the strips are in Filipino/Tagalog, so English-only readers may not be able to understand the stories.

And, if you’re feeling generous, maybe you can send a donation my way to help fund the print edition of MASKARADO. Any amount you feel reasonable would be greatly appreciated. You can donate via the PayPal donate button at the sidebar of this website, or at the button below…

Thanks and I hope you enjoy reading!

The Spider & Domino Lady Painting

10 03 2014

I don’t do much painted stuff, but here’s one fairly recent piece. And just for the heck of it, I’ll also show you a bit of the process that went into making this piece.

The first three thumbnails were my initial studies. After a mix-and-match process with the editor, I combined elements and wound up with sketch number four. Feeling that the Spider was in an awkward position, we wound up with the final sketch, with Domino Lady up front and the Spider at the back.

After that, I drew a clean line version of the sketch on an illustration board, then proceeded to paint over it using poster paint, with some colored pencils for the details.

After scanning the painted figures, I did the art deco background and text in Illustrator and Photoshop. The editor thought that the Spider’s hair was too groomed, so I painted over it in Photoshop, giving him a “scragglier” look.

Sadly, this piece will go unpublished. But I didn’t want it to go to waste so I posted it here for everyone to see. :)

The Promise

4 03 2014

Here’s a short story I did some years back, just for fun. This is the first time this story goes public. It’s written in Tagalog/Filipino, so I apologize to my non-Filipino-speaking readers out there. Still, I hope you enjoy it.

2013 in review

31 12 2013

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,900 times in 2013. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 5 trips to carry that many people.

Just a quick announcement… (UPDATED)

11 11 2013

The Komikon organizers have allowed me to do a sketching session for the victims of typhoon Yolanda at this Saturday’s Komikon. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross. A pencil sketch of any character (half body) at a size of 8.5” x 13” will go for PhP200 each. I am also accepting advanced orders of INKED character drawings (half body, 8.5” x13”) at PhP500 each. You can pick up and pay for your advanced orders at the Komikon itself. Email me at with “YOLANDA” as the subject line. Please specify which character you would like me to draw. I will send you a confirmation email if your order will be ready for the Komikon.

I understand that there are other charitable activities that will also be going on during the Komikon. Hopefully we can support all of these activities. Thank you!
